The Purpose of the Commissio de donationibus pro Sancta Sede

The Commissio de donationibus pro Sancta Sede, or the Commission for the Donations to the Holy See, was established by Pope Francis in 2014. The commission’s primary objective is to promote the Catholic Church’s financial transparency and to encourage the faithful to support the Church’s charitable activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage donations received from various sources, including the faithful, bishops’ conferences, and other benefactors. Allocate donations to various projects and initiatives, such as the construction of churches, the support of seminaries, and the funding of charitable programs. Develop and implement fundraising strategies to increase donations and support for the Church’s charitable activities.

    The Commission is responsible for the implementation of the Apostolic Penitentiary’s decisions and the coordination of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith’s activities.

    The Commission’s Structure and Responsibilities

    The Commission is composed of five members, each appointed by the Holy See. The members are:

  • Monsignor Roberto Campisi, Assessor for General Affairs of the Secretariat of State
  • Monsignor Giovanni Battista Re, Secretary of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith
  • Monsignor Giovanni Battista Salimbeni, Secretary of the Congregation for the Clergy
  • Monsignor Antonio Maria Amato, Secretary of the Congregation for the Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life
  • Monsignor Giovanni Battista Salimbeni, Secretary of the Congregation for the Bishops
  • The Commission is chaired by Monsignor Roberto Campisi, who is responsible for the overall direction and coordination of the Commission’s activities.

    The Commission will also provide guidance and support to other organizations and individuals involved in fundraising and awareness-raising activities.
