Artistic representation for Naomi campbell's ban: charity trustee scandal shakes zimbabwe's philanthropy

The charity, which was set up in 2016 to help Syrian refugees, was found to have spent £1.2 million on administration costs. The Commission’s investigation revealed that only £1.1 million was actually reaching the intended beneficiaries. The charity’s founder, Mohamed El-Mahdi, was not aware of the discrepancy. The Commission’s findings have led to a call for stricter oversight of charities.

The charity, which has been in operation for over a decade, has been under scrutiny due to allegations of mismanagement and financial irregularities. The ban was imposed after an investigation revealed that the trustees had misused funds intended for charitable activities. The misuse included unauthorized personal expenses and investments in high-risk ventures.

The remaining 91.5% was used for other purposes. The charity’s financial report reveals that a significant portion of the funds was allocated to administrative costs, marketing, and fundraising activities. These expenditures are essential for the charity’s operations but have raised concerns among donors about the efficiency of fund utilization. The charity’s financial report also highlights that a substantial amount of the funds was invested in infrastructure and technology upgrades. These investments are aimed at improving the charity’s operational efficiency and expanding its reach.

The organization, which was established in 2015, had been recognized for its efforts in providing clothing and other necessities to those in need. The decision to remove the charity from the register was not due to any misconduct or failure on their part. Instead, it was a result of a change in the criteria set by the charity registration authority.
